1. How to take control of this process from negotiation to payment.
2. Use the L/C as a secured sales tool and risk mitigation, yes both!
3. L/C's are 100% secured vs. expensive Trade Credit 80-85% coverage.
4. How to keep the L/C super simple, reduce the # of documents, and it’s true, every discrepancy is avoidable.
5. Create consistency by using a tailored set of L/C Instructions; learn how to structure the L/C in YOUR favor!
6. Understand how to get paid in days, even sooner than product arrives in the other country. The sooner you present complying documents the quicker you will be paid.
7. Every L/C tells a story, we will read between the lines, learn how to audit the L/C prior to releasing the shipment. Which SWIFT tags impact payment?
8. Understand the importance of Incoterms.
9. How can I leverage the “rate arbitrage” and what does this mean? Your foreign buyers may be borrowing at higher in-country commercial borrowing rates, and you could offer U.S. rates by issuing the L/C from a list of approved foreign issuing banks. It’s called a usance L/C, an L/C with terms, vs. a “sight” L/C.
10. What if.. Every L/C advised in the U.S. offered a minimum of 180 day tenor. When you could be offering even your best foreign buyers access to a lower cost of funds, additional working capital? Differentiate yourself, make yourself more competitive.

Speaker Bio


Danielle Austin is a recognized professional for providing informative articles, workshops, in-house training, and webinars on Export Letters of Credit. She’s a speaker, writer and a practitioner for over 20 years working on the corporate side as the Exporter (managing up to 20 sets of docs a day valued at $12MM), and now on the international bank side. She’s published through various International Trade journals and contributing editor for LCM-Letter of Credit Monitor. She has been presenting L/C's from coast to coast as well as internationally from the Beneficiary’s point of view. She will equip the exporters how to simply master the art of this process and her mission is to “Educate the Exporters”. She represented U.S. Exporters for a UCP600 revision meeting in Paris on the U.S. Banking Committee through the United States Council for International Business (USCIB). With a comprehensive understanding of the UCP (Uniform Customs Practice), ISBP (International Standard Banking Practice), and Incoterms 2010, her training provides the most effective methods to manage this process internally.
